I think trading for other people's zines is a bigger motivation for making zines to me than anything else.
People like to say that having a certain pen or marker or whatever won't make you a better artist
BUT going from using cheap pencils on printer paper to Copic markers on special paper has been fucking amazing and my art has improved drastically.
If all you have is cheap/improvised tools then getting access to higher quality tools will actually improve your art.

How many pages are zines usually anyway? I know there's probably a huge variance, but is 8 pages (front cover, two leafs, back cover) unusually small?
I've been calling my publications "mini books" and I was going to start calling them "mini zines" but I'm wondering if the mini qualifier is even neccessary.

I know I'm in the minority on this, but I miss the 'film' look of anime. Just something about printing those cels on 35mm film gave it that je nais se quoi that's missing in digitally produced shows. Sunrise productions were the best at this in the late 90s imho.

While getting dressed I find myself pondering a video game where you are a shoulder dragon with shoulder dragon sized problems. Sure, the wizard whose shoulder you ride on has some complex world-in-peril narrative to deal with, and every now and then she makes you do some weird mission that can only be accomplished by a tiny dragon, but mostly you're concerned with lazing around the place while she does research, stealing cookies from the cabinet, chasing the local rats and birds, accumulating a shoulder dragon sized hoard of shiny things, and so on.
It would be the most relaxing thing ever.
