Back during web 2.0, getting pwned on the internet was the an excruciating and miserable experience for commenters, but for myself the experience of being pwned in the comment section of Roger Ebert's blog for agreeing with him that video games are not art was the seed for a decade of growth and flourishing.

I think in future webs, when people are doing something even more advanced than pwning or cancelling, many will look back on cancel culture with the same fondness.
