A few quick tips which helped me settle in
- If you're used to Tweetdeck and are on the Mastodon web app, go into Settings/Preferences/Appearance and check the 'Enable advanced web interface' box. That'll let you have multiple columns and each column can then be customised from the bar at the top.
- If you find the federated feed overwhelming (and I do), consider removing the column entirely. I live on my Home feed and the Local .art feed, and that's quite enough content for me :D

- Don't be afraid to mute people; it doesn't carry the same stigma as it often could do on other social media. If someone's posting material you don't want to see, you can mute them either for a specific amount of time or indefinitely; I tend to mute indefinitely if people are posting things I find personally objectionable, or for a short period if they're spamming multiple posts without due consideration.
