Hey, this oil painting is starting to come together! The more I work on it, the more I come to understand why oil is such a favored medium. It’s a lot more forgiving than I thought at first, and you don’t need to wait for your current layer to dry to add more paint where you need it. And the blending is really really nice 😌
Started to play around with oil paints again this evening. At first I got frustrated at how much the paint slid around on the primed linen, and how hard it was to control, but then I started blending it more softly and I had a click moment. That smoky halo effect around the tower, and the implied texture on the near hill to the right, would be really hard to achieve in water-based paint but oils made it easy.
Just finished my new entry for the exquisite corpse my local comics group is making! The story is starting to heat up, I can't wait to see where it goes :D

Finished my remake of another old high school sketch! This was a lot of fun.
I think the old sketch holds up pretty well, especially the bored expression on the guard. But in addition to color I replaced a lot of distracting detail on the background landscape with atmospheric effects. I impulsively added a curtain of rain around the floating island, which I think makes it look less ominous and more mysterious and ethereal.

Thirty Flights of Loving
Zelda: Breath of the Wild
I really wanted to put a point-and-click adventure game on here, but I couldn't think of a single entry that really wraps up why I enjoyed those games so much. I feel like the sum total of playing that genre was often greater than the individual parts.
Some friends of mine and I did an exquisite corpse (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exquisite_corpse) comic and we just concluded the story! Here's the full 12 entries of "A Friend at Camp": http://lmc-exquisite.herokuapp.com/

New time-lapse art video in the works! This time I actually recorded everything in real time so I could selectively speed it up later. I'll post a longer video on my YouTube channel with explanations of what I'm doing at the various stages of the painting. For now, please enjoy 2.5 hours of sci-fi gouache painting in a minute and a half!
