What is the gnu/linux distribution that artists here use?

Thank you for all your tips! I've been using Ubuntu but is too heavy for my (old) laptop. I will check out your recommendations and see what works better over here. 😀

haven't really posted art here but that's what I do for work, with moderate success

@pedroferreira I'm using Fedora.

More specifically, Fedora Workstation with Gnome Shell. Works for me.

Not niche enough that I have to dedicate time for OS maintenance, but not putting training wheels on by default or being half-assed about freedom (looking at you Ubuntu).

On the software side I use Krita with a fallback on Gimp for some stuff, Inkscape, Font Manager. Most of it from the Flathub repo.

@atomikaya thanks for your message, I've been using Ubuntu and I'm new to Linux so I thought to try other versions because Ubuntu is heavy on my laptop.
About software, I like Krita too and need to try Inkscape. I use shotcut for video and learning processing and supercollider.
I also want to try Scribus for publishing, perhaps you know it too.

@pedroferreira I haven't done much video editing so I… believe you? 😅

I have mixed feelings about Scribus. The interface and thus your work preview is just really bad. Early 2000s bad. It's probably your best option when you want to create books with complex layouts, but as I do flyers and posters mostly I stick to Inkscape.

@atomikaya Thanks for the feedback. I will definitely try it out!

@pedroferreira i heard that linux mint should be super cool, easy and cinnamon is supposed to be lightweight compared to ubuntu's default window manager :) good luck!
