Black and white photography is fantastic for painting studies to learn about composition and value structure, it always blows my mind how clearly these shots read. Would love to achieve that level of appeal and structure in my paintings some day.

@mooncube An exercise I did for a while was to just thumb stuff (imagination, screenshots, whatever) on white paper with a black Sharpie. Seems really simple but I like to think it crystallized the whole "WHITE AGAINST DARK DARK AGAINST LIGHT COMBINE SHAPES TOGETHER, SUCKA!!" lesson

@AesAthena Definitely a great exercise, agreed! In a way painting almost becomes like a puzzle, where you have to find a good way to combine all the different pieces so they read well but also support the bigger composition!
