an awesome chip idm electro tech album written in nanoloop:
@gemlog IDM is actually an "old" (and a bit controversially named) genre from the 90s - Intelligent Dance Music - used for artists like Aphex Twin, Autechre, Squarepusher, even Boards of Canada.. pretty much everything coming from labels like Rephlex (they called it Brain dance), Warp, Skam and many more.. started in the 90s. Most of artists cringed at the genre name but for some reason it stuck. There was also a legendary IDM mailing list.
>> Intelligent dance music (IDM) is a form of electronic music that emerged in the early 1990s, characterized by an abstract or "cerebral" sound better suited for home listening than dancing. Inspired by a variety of sources, including techno, acid house, ambient music, and breakbeat, IDM tended to rely upon individualistic experimentation rather than adhering to characteristics associated with specific genres.<<
@snowdusk_ @gemlog I come from breakbeat background so Techno wouldn't be right i think.. . More like that new umbrella term of "bass music", with elements and influences of hip-hop, IDM, electro-funk, ambient...
@luka @gemlog LOL nevermind what I just said 😅 i believe post-dubstep is kind of loud and the tracks on your Albatross EP are not loud. They have a soothing melody but sounds like dubstep.. so maybe 'dubstep'? LOL there are too many steps!!! I get confused myself with all these musical subgenres! 😂💦 Cheers! 🍻
@snowdusk_ @gemlog well that's the thing. post-dubstep is kinda like post-punk. not necessarily loud at all. sometimes almost wierd and uncomprehensible. there's so much music out there's that uses bass to a lot of effect but not as a tool of aggression or abrassiveness. sometimes it's just very contemporary glitchy electronic dub ambient, if you know what i mean. i mean even dubstep can be very mellow and spacious....

@luka @gemlog Thank you so much Luka for this very detailed explanation 👍👍 I guess we can't really label an artist with one particular genre because I think every artist shld be free in exploring all kinds of musical genres as the artist likes. We can probably give him/her one genre but not one sub-genre. Variety is always good in my opinion 😁
@snowdusk_ @luka That was a lot of listening!
@snowdusk_ @luka In that video, watching the dj's, I don't have any familiarity with doing it or making music. I know it is totally dissimilar music but it reminded me of gotan (tango):
Santa Maria (del Buen Ayre)

Live music and two dj.
@snowdusk_ @luka I want to fav my own post. I so enjoy that group! ;-)
@gemlog I think it's considered "taboo" to favourite or boost one's own post LOL 😂💦 but I sometimes do it by accident 😝
@snowdusk_ @luka Also, it was interesting in that one vid to watch the dj's trade off. And then the one councilled the other after.
@luka Yo... this is really good. Will definitely pick it up soon.
@luka I'm listening to it. I"m meh.
@luka Killed it. But I should have and easy way of paying artists I like.
That's a missing thing.
@luka I need to learn a new language. I know snowdusk said what idm was but I forget already... I'm old.
