You meet some very dark personalities if you're on the Internet for long enough. People who think the Internet is a big joke and think hurting or angering people is the best thing since sliced bread. I imagine their internal organs to consist mostly of corrosive black slime that burns anyone who touches it, and you can only kill them by piercing their chests with a silver nail. They just give off such a terrible vibe.

But again, I personally prefer to look at them as humans bc humans do shitty things. Stripping them of their humanity allows us an excuse to not reflect on our behavior collectively. But yeah, you do you.

Homelessness and the Royal Wedding Show more

I just bought myself a new lens for my DSLR that I researched months ago,. Time has come and I can afford it, but as I wanted to click 'buy' - it felt wrong.

I realised I hadn't used my DSLR for almost a year. Without ever making a conscious decision, my phone has become my only photography tool.

I took the plunge and bought the lens, but with plenty of doubt - will it see much use?

I have used 'proper' cameras for decades, it was a weird realisation that I don't actually need one anymore

If I could convince Mastodon at large of only one thing, it would be this:

if you see someone complaining, DO NOT give them advice.

If someone ASKS for advice, offer it.

But 90% of the time, someone complaining is just venting. They're not telling you the whole story, and they're not receptive to being given advice, because in that mental state, your "good-natured advice" is their "HERE'S HOW YOU'RE DOING THIS WRONG".

Do not respond with advice unless it's asked for.

This is a very important read for the intersection of the law, tech and doing what is right.
