⚠️REMINDER: Only download Inkscape from trusted sources and be cautious about emails with links, even if they claim to be from the project. If there's any doubt go to the source. The latest, validated release will always be available for free on our website.

Boosts appreciated.

There was some kind of scammy email pretending to be you a while ago, wasn't there? Hope they haven't come back again! 😔

@inkscape Mastodon lets you verify your ownership of Inkscape by putting a line of code in your website header that points back to this profile.

Once you add it you will get a green check mark next to your meta field.

@masstransitkrow @inkscape That's a nice feature, but to be honest, i don't really get how to use it. The documentation doesn't really help me with the link verification. What exactly do i have to add where on my linked site? Can anyone clarify this with an example in the official documentation?

IAdd a Link to your profile and use the attribute rel="me".
I think you can either use <a> or a invisible <link> in the <head> section.

@allo That's all i need?

<link href="https://mymasto.instance/profile" rel="me">

Why isn't this stated that clear in the documentation? Not everyone on this planet is a tech-person and not every tech-person is aware of every html tag out there.

@markus That should be sufficient. And you can add it to usual backlinks as well. For example, I verified my pixelfed profile by using my Mastodon profile as the website link.

@markus @masstransitkrow @inkscape

Just copy the code and paste it anywhere in the code of the page you want to verify.

You don't even have to keep it there, you only need it when verification happens.

@markus @inkscape an example is line 10 for my site. It works with alias domains too, as shown on my profile.

@masstransitkrow @markus

Can't say that it works... Maybe this instance just doesn't do any confirmation?

@inkscape @markus I use meta headers, but your explanation is also possible.

I figured meta headers work better because most crawlers scan the first 1024 characters.

@inkscape Got it! From now on, I'll only download Inkscape from my trusted source,! If I have any doubts I'll go and check the source against what I can find on to ensure that the source files are the correct ones. :awesome:

(this is my not-so-subtle hint that it's worth mentioning the correct domain in any notice about downloading software and "trusted sources". For anyone wondering, Inkscapes correct domain is maybe :blobcatgoogly2: )

@inkscape I recommend installing Inkscape only from your distributions repository. If it doesn't come with your distribution, build it from the official source code!
