It seems to me that these people will get notifications, possibly more than one or two, whenever they check in on, say, Twitter. But for those who tend to use social media in “read-only mode” it doesn’t make any sense - and I would argue that read-only mode is a form of social media addiction in its own right. The problem is that the read-only people once in a while engage in an interaction. And then turning notifications off can have the opposite effect.
