R.I.P. MAD Magazine. You were a profound influence on me and my work. https://www.comicsbeat.com/mad-magazine-ending/
One of the most frustrating aspects of having an art career is the fundamentally opposite pulls of making and publicizing one's work.
If you want to make your work the best it can be, you have to have enough humility to know you can always do better than what comes easily. If you think you're good enough now, you won't grow.
If you want to be able to pitch your work to others, you have to believe it's the best thing ever. If you don't believe your own hype, you won't convince anyone else.
I'll have a table tomorrow at Somerville Public Library Comix Con (FREE to the public 10 AM -- 4 PM) and moderating a panel discussion on the Boston area comics scene, 2:30 -- 3:30 PM. Hope you can make it! http://www.libraryinsight.net/eventdetails.asp?jx=sep&lmx=%C9aa%21%A3%A5&v=3
As #Easter is coming up, a reminder that rabbits are very complex animals with more needs than most realise.
They live 10 or more years, aren't usually big on being cuddled, cost as much as a dog, and need a lot of time, space to run around, and attention. They should allay be kept in pairs at least.
A whopping *75%* of rabbits in the UK are neglected. Please, if thinking of getting a bunny, know what you're getting into or stick with chocolate http://bunny.nipple.solutions
"#Zuckerberg’s essay is a power grab disguised as an act of contrition.
By narrowly construing #privacy to be exclusively about #endtoend #encryption, he avoids having to think about Facebook’s weaknesses and missteps. Privacy is not just about keeping secrets. It’s also about how flows of info shape us as individuals and as a society."
Because I laid out a floorplan for Johann von Medem's mansion, I had to repaint Panel 1 of Page 2 of "Spirits & Seekers".
The tent came out looking darker, so I had to paint over the tent in other panels. I also took the opportunity to revise shadows on the figures and toned down Karlchen & Jeannot's outfits so they didn't outshine Cagliostro.
Progress report: 1st stage watercolors for revised Page 2 Panel 1 of Spirits & Seekers: Cagliostro in Courland. Not happy (yet) with the shadow of the tent on the wall where the balcony is (curtains closed), or with the lettering for "Tetragrammaton" on the banner. The shadow can easily be made darker, but I'll have to go over the lettering with Acryla-Gouache and try lettering again.
I'm painting this as a bleed so I can chop it off in Photoshop. Will also cut it when pasting over original.
Spirits & Seekers: Cagliostro in Courland:
Due to finally drawing a floor plan of Johann von Medem's palace -- a REVISED version of which is here -- I'm having to re-paint a panel from Page 2, which I'd already painted.
Here are the old painted Page 2 Panel 1, and the pencils of the new Page 2 Panel 1. The Egyptian Freemasonry tent is the same, but the space it's in is a ballroom with a balcony.
