As #Easter is coming up, a reminder that rabbits are very complex animals with more needs than most realise.
They live 10 or more years, aren't usually big on being cuddled, cost as much as a dog, and need a lot of time, space to run around, and attention. They should allay be kept in pairs at least.
A whopping *75%* of rabbits in the UK are neglected. Please, if thinking of getting a bunny, know what you're getting into or stick with chocolate http://bunny.nipple.solutions
"#Zuckerberg’s essay is a power grab disguised as an act of contrition.
By narrowly construing #privacy to be exclusively about #endtoend #encryption, he avoids having to think about Facebook’s weaknesses and missteps. Privacy is not just about keeping secrets. It’s also about how flows of info shape us as individuals and as a society."
Because I laid out a floorplan for Johann von Medem's mansion, I had to repaint Panel 1 of Page 2 of "Spirits & Seekers".
The tent came out looking darker, so I had to paint over the tent in other panels. I also took the opportunity to revise shadows on the figures and toned down Karlchen & Jeannot's outfits so they didn't outshine Cagliostro.
Progress report: 1st stage watercolors for revised Page 2 Panel 1 of Spirits & Seekers: Cagliostro in Courland. Not happy (yet) with the shadow of the tent on the wall where the balcony is (curtains closed), or with the lettering for "Tetragrammaton" on the banner. The shadow can easily be made darker, but I'll have to go over the lettering with Acryla-Gouache and try lettering again.
I'm painting this as a bleed so I can chop it off in Photoshop. Will also cut it when pasting over original.
Spirits & Seekers: Cagliostro in Courland:
Due to finally drawing a floor plan of Johann von Medem's palace -- a REVISED version of which is here -- I'm having to re-paint a panel from Page 2, which I'd already painted.
Here are the old painted Page 2 Panel 1, and the pencils of the new Page 2 Panel 1. The Egyptian Freemasonry tent is the same, but the space it's in is a ballroom with a balcony.
For the first time in over 30 years, my art will be in the Boskone Art Show, which is this weekend (15-17 February) at the Westin Boston Waterfront Hotel. Original art is for sale by silent auction, prints by direct sale off the rack. Opening reception Friday night 9:15--11 PM! https://www.boskone.org/program-event/art-show/ #artshow #Boskone
Opening this Friday, Boston Children's Museum has an art show *Comics: Heroes, Myths, and Tales*. I'm one of the 10 Boston Comics Roundtable artists featured in the show.
The art I'm including consists of Pages 12--16 from my near-wordless comic book, _Laird MacGuffin's Treasury_ (see pp12-15 below).
This Friday evening 6--8 PM there will be a Meet the Artists event, and I'll be there! Friday evenings 5–9 PM, Museum admission is only $1. https://www.bostonchildrensmuseum.org/exhibits-programs/exhibits/gallery
New, improved, mobile-responsive portfolio website is live! http://www.ejbarnes.com/
The tone layer of the color study for Spirits & Seekers Page 004 has been changed to reflect the fact that there are windows on two walls -- Page 003, which shows light in the windows of the corner room, should have tipped me off long ago. In this study, I lifted as much of the old color as I could, but there's only so much I could do. This is why I do color studies -- so I have room to make mistakes! #mastoart #watercolor
Images I've already posted here -- including the "final" version of Page 002 of Spirits & Seekers -- may have to change. I finally sat down and sketched the floor plan of the 2nd floor ("Upstairs" of the Upstairs/Downstairs dynamic) of the Mitau (Jelgava) home of Baroness Elisa von der Recke's father, Count Johann von Medem. #mastoart #planning #thingsIshouldhavethoughtofearlier
Tone washes for color study for Page 006 of Spirits & Seekers: Cagliostro in Courland. I haven't done anything with the glasses of (dark-colored, like Riga Black Balsam-style) cordial, as I was unsure how to handle the reflection and refraction of the glass in this mostly fireplace-lit scenery; I'll have to quiz my watercolor coach. #mastoart #watercolor #cagliostro
Tone washes for color study of Page 005 of Spirits & Seekers: Cagliostro in Courland. What does Cagliostro see that gives him pause? #mastoart
Getting back to work (again) on the color studies for _Spirits & Seekers: Cagliostro in Courland_. These are updated tone washes for the study for Page 004 -- with lettering. #mastoart
Further progress on Mona Lisa. Don't be afraid to go dark in your early washes! Hahaha. #mastoart
How Mona Lisa stands as of the end of the MIT Craft Fair this past Friday afternoon. Will continue working on her during this week's craft fairs. #mastoart
