An update on this: Got everything copied over... somehow...? Didn't need to do any deep recovery, the data I actually needed wasn't in the corrupted blocks.
New system's all set up, just need to install a few more programs and I'm all set!
The real road block turned out to be Adobe's license servers for CS3 shutting down at some point in the last 4 years 🙃
HDD data recovery help?
HDD died, NTFS Master File Table got corrupted. Windows Recovery tools, chkdsk and dd choke on it. There weren't many personal files on this partition and I am resigned to reinstalling Windows, but there are a few things I'd like to recover, such as my Firefox profile. Any software recs for Windows or Linux to help? I will connect the HDD to another machine so it doesn't need to be bootable.
Krita text tool questions
How do I change the font units to pixels? I work a lot with pixel fonts and point sizes don't play nicely with those.
How do I change the way fonts are rasterized? Sometimes I really don't want anti-aliasing (e.g. for pixel art fonts, and for text on things I plan to print).
The 4.4 documentation doesn't mention either feature, so I guess it's impossible?
While looking these up, I saw that text tool improvements are planned for 5.0, exciting!
the recent events with artalley once again bring up some advice i'd like to share with fellow artists and creatives
please, please, please make yourself a site that's not just an account on a social media platform
it can be a wix or weebly, a wordpress blog installation, a carrd, or whatever
it's important to have a dedicated place for your work and your info that isn't subject to service interruptions so people can always find it and see the things you want seen
Someone annoying you? Mute their ass or block 'em. You don't have to spend anymore of your time listening to ppl acting up in your online space. 💪😤
Hi! I feel relaxed for the first time this year and do enjoy this a lot. I hope many get time off to relax. Be kind to those who work and stay distant for those, who can't take time off because their work is truly essential.
Also... I painted another frog. I promise different times and animals will come... One day...
Mastodon.Art was created as a place for artists to interact and share their creations with each other but it seems to me a lot of people here don't post considering the context that other artists will be the first to see and interact with their creation, and are still operating under the "shout into the void" mentality of other social media. I feel that the potential for this instance to be a place where artists connect with each other as fellow artists is mostly being missed out on. This is sad
Some neat functions I've found lately in #Krita:
1) You can use any brush for the line-tool or circle tool and so on.
2) You can vary the line thickness with pen pressure DURING drawing a line with the line-tool.
I've tested it out here in the background.
The COVID-19 bill is released and hidden in it are two *enormous* copyright provisions; the Tillis bill that creates a jail felony for streaming infringements, and the "CASE act" that creates a totally new low-friction DMCA-takedown-like court that can levy five-digit fines for…well, pretty much anything, without the checks on abuse a normal court has or (to my read) adequate notice to targets they were even sued.
These have real potential to harm average Internet users.
if anyone believes either of these things:
for one, it's not censorship. nothing about either of those actions stops someone from expressing themself on this platform or any other. especially if the person posting the content isn't on my instance; i don't have that kind of power
two: there's a healthy helping of reasons why untagged, un-cw'd lewd art popping up on someone's feed is a bad thing. it can get people in trouble at work, at home, at school. there could be minors browsing the TL
I've been looking for resources that might help a cis man who's always identified as straight come to terms with what his spouse starting to identify as ftm means for his sexuality, and I'm really struggling to find anything.
If anybody's got anything to hand that they could send me a link to I would very much appreciate it
South Africa and India proposed a thing to waive IP rights for COVID vaccinations, which is a good thing, will make them more accessible. Here's a map of who supports it and who doesn't. So basically all the poor countries support it and all the rich countries don't support it. -.-
I made the webcomic Black Dram! When I'm not working on comics, I'm probably making pixelarty games.
