Hey , my name is Denman Rooke, I'm an illustrator, art director, and concept artist working in games. I've been working professionally since 2007 and live in Galway, Ireland.

I've done work for Magic the Gathering, D&D, and Pathfinder RPG to name a few (with a small contribution of mine in the behind the scenes of the Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug). I am currently working full-time as an Associate Art Director at Sumo Digital.

Here's a few recent pieces of mine.

It's obviously just a tool like anything else and won't be a mandatory element of concept art at all. Just like 3D if it can help create interesting ideas fast, then use it! If it's not for you, that's fine too. But it's definitely got some interesting things to throw our way.

I've started playing with it recently and, man, it's blowing me away.

Such a great way to kickstart ideas and then use it as a base to paint over.

It's almost like fast tracking a whole ton of happy accidents. And then you can fill in the noise and mold it into something cool.

Folks are probably already saying this. But you know when concept artists started getting into 3D and everyone said "this is the new future of concept art!".

Well I believe using AI tools (like Disco Diffusion) is going to be the next future of concept art if it isn't already.

The award for Empire of Sin's Best Game Art of 2020 from Imirt finally arrived! Now added to my Empire of Sin shrine.

I art directed this game as well as doing a ton of concept art, illustration, marketing, and branding. Developed by Romero Games and published by Paradox Interactive.

I've started playing with using Disco Diffusion AI as a tool for starting concept art ideas to then paint over... and my mind has been blown.

"I think he said we own THAT one!"

More work towards ongoing projects. Here a group of seem to to have been gifted the documents that prove the own a , only they might have got a little more than they bargained for.

I don't paint enough flying ships...

(This is the image in my intro toot, & so was a chance to address the lack of alt text for that image too.)

Amazing #Mastodon Feature: "Delete & re-draft"!! Feels almost like "edit" and even puts the attached Video again in your draft without having to re-upload it. Twitter, why don't you have such an option?! ❤️

Should any sci-fi artists out there be in need of for starfield or nebula space backgrounds, I have a load on my Gumroad (some free, some not). Some examples here.

More pre-alpha cropped screenshots of our game Wicked Lands. For those interested it's an indie, turn based, roguelite, strategy game we're developing (Hugging Dragons and myself).

Like the sound of it? Please go to Steam and search Wicked Lands to wishlist it 😊.

One thing I'm having to relearn on here is using hashtags again. Reminds me of the old Twitter days.

Happy May Day! I had fun illustrating this poster for PBP Galway's upcoming May Day event with NUIG historian John Cunningham. John will be talking about Galway's lost history of worker and tenant struggle which was dubbed the Galway Soviet

If you're in Galway, come check it out. I'll be there.
