Hey Mastodon. What platform would you recommend for live streaming music? Twitch or Youtube?

@champi Well, let's see.

YouTube is owned by Google.
Twitch is owned by Amazon.

You're using services owned by (or ) corporations either way, but if you're OK with that I'd suggest using whichever one you're most familiar with. Or, pick the one where you have the most followers/subscribers.

@starbreaker Thanks :) Well I aint got no followers on twitch I never used it. My youtube channel as the incredible number of 18 followers. But in lockdown time I d like to share the process of making music with the friends I usually do music with. I just realized now I've gotta use a software like OBS. I'm just starting to understand the process of how to live stream.

Dumb question: if you're going to use OBS, does it have to be a live stream? Can't you just record it and then upload it to your own website (if you have one)?

@starbreaker The whole point is to make music with friends who are away and transmitting the sound in good quality. So we would be able to make music together at the same moment.

@champi In that case, GNU Jami might be suitable depending on your friends' tech proficiency.

@starbreaker I'm gonna check that out. Thanks :)
