This is at base interesting for #peertube as it is a nextgen royalty free codec(format to store videos), but it is also sorta important for us Krita devs to keep track of because much like hevc has heif, av1 will have avif, which would be a sort of nextgen jpeg.

It's particularly interesting to compare the original/jpeg to the heif and avif stuff, in particular how even though there's less... tangible artifacts, the new formats do blur details in a way jpeg does not, so that'll be an interesting thing to consider when using these new formats.
