gender terminology, probably spicy
People who think the word "enby" is infantilizing are projecting and that's something they need to work on imo. To be clear, don't call people a word they don't want to be called. But also seriously, if you think an alternate spelling of an abbreviation is childlike and condescending because it ends with "y", that's your own internalized bias you need to shake off yourself, not demand the people around you to reinforce it.
re: gender terminology, probably spicy
If you're not comfortable with the word "enby" because you feel it's "infantilizing", what you're also saying is that everyone who likes that word and uses it to describe themselves is infantilizing themselves. Even if you say "it's ok for others to use it," you're still saying they're infantilizing themselves. And if you really don't think others are infantilizing themselves with "enby", then consider why you think enby is infantilizing in the first place.

re: gender terminology, probably spicy
@atelierapricity @TapiocaPearl NB is falling out of favor because the Black community used it first for Non-Black and using it also for Non-Binary confuses things. So I've personally strayed away from NB.

@TapiocaPearl I love being called enby exactly because I find it adorable lol

@TapiocaPearl People should stop associating all cute with childlike tho, or with feminine

@lehlatte big mood. Was thinking about that earlier today because a nb character in a manga I'm reading said basically "I don't want to be a girl, I want to be cute" and it was really cool to me they vocalized that distinction
gender terminology, probably spicy
@TapiocaPearl Yeah people around me still associate me with female and it peeves me even more when they complain I did something perceived male (like not shaving my legs/shaving my hair)

@TapiocaPearl I wonder how many people who say "enby" is infantilizing think that calling an adult romantic interest "baby" is fine. Because that's literally a word for infants.
re: gender terminology, probably spicy
@TapiocaPearl this. this!!!!
re: gender terminology, probably spicy
If "enby" is for children then what is the adult word?
