I received so many private messages with regards to #Instagram , thank you all so much!
No need to worry that there is no open source alternative anymore:
#Pixelfed is on it's way.
But how do I connect to a larger audience? Those bigger platforms are really good at selling the idea, that you are disconnected if you ditch them. But how many people is enough?
And could it be that it all just is manipulation? Feel bad if you leave the line?
@adamk678 thank you for sharing your experience! I can't even reach 100 followers on Twitter. I should stop feeling bad about it.
@Styxcolor I think it can be good to be on Instagram as you still get eyes on things there, now, a lot of interactions there are a little-bit bullshit, but it isn't like Facebook where it really doesn't help you at all. But be cautious about where you invest your time and how much.
My thinking is that the federated social media is where things are going, and that as it grows we will too. Kinda like jumping on a train who is about to get speed instead of one with loads of speed, slowly loosing it
@Styxcolor I'm of the mind that it's pretty manipulative. Back when I was on Twitter, I had a few posts that went pretty viral. But despite having nearly 2000 followers, my average tweets didn't get a whole ton of interactions. I think I generally get more interactions here on Mastodon despite having a small fraction of that follower count.
