#deletefacebook
It's happening. I'm outta there in October. As a private person and as a content creator this was the best choice I could make.
But pls, do not cheer for me right now. I still have Instagram. So that's like we got rid of the plague but there's still cholera...
What still keeps me on IG gets a post of it's own.
@ChrisTalleras never heard of this before, gotta take a look! Thanks!
@Styxcolor Pixelfed is a Mastodon-like alternative for instagram
@Styxcolor Instagram is the one platform I kind of miss. My stubbornness is keeping me away, but I'm wondering at what point techno-absolutism becomes meaningless and I need to just be careful about use.
@brian IG must have been better before FB acquired it. I joined too late. I don't know when you abandoned your account, now there's this terrible FB-algorithm that sorts the timeline to manipulate everyone into wasting as much time as possible watching ads scrolling down "relevant" content.
The problem might be, that for a long time IG had no comparable competitors. So social pressure, everybody there.. PixelFed might change this.
@Styxcolor I joined Instagram back in the day before Facebook purchased it. When it was bought, the big question was around IP and reuse rights. Those were never really quelled, but I persisted.
Since then, the "curated timeline" and all the addon stuff made it really unappealing. But, since I don't have facebook, IG was one of the ways I stayed in touch with family and friends with kids, etc. I feel more out of the loop now, which is a bummer.
@brian ahh, that's a bummer indeed. Staying in touch with real people is one of the few things I needed FB for/need IG for, too. There is no advice that works for everyone, how to stay in touch. Wish you the best!
@Styxcolor we have now #pixelfed it's an alternative for instagram @pixelfed
@Styxcolor Luckily PixelFed is getting better and better. Soon there will be loads of instances and the like 😀
