Yesterday my teacher texted me to share great news. One of her private pupils passed exams and got accepted to the state music school, and straight into the 2-nd form.

The girl is 11 and previously was rejected by several art schools, as she was deemed too "old" and not talented enough.

For the last 3 years this is the second time that her pupil was able to break through. The first one was a girl who started at 13. Now she's 16 and recently has won a young musicians' municipal grant.

@SeventhMagpie wow such a legacy to be a part of! It's really cool that you have that amazing teacher and see other students excelling. I'm sure the same is happening for you :)

@ScribbleAddict Well, they are kids and I'm long since not. :) Although I can say I'm making progress, as well. Just not as big and fast, because adult stuff and all, not much time to practice.

What always baffles me, however, is this certainty with which adult bureaucrats proclaim children unfit for art. It's good when their parents can afford private tutoring to jump start their training. But who knows how many talented kids were rejected and their parents couldn't do anything about it.

@SeventhMagpie Yeah, that's really awful, the way adults are so quick to tell children they can't do art. I think all of us remember several people telling us that, but then to be flat out rejected when applying for a program. That's why I try so hard to encourage young artists (in whatever field), because it's hard for children especially to understand that adults aren't always right. I know many people who just believed what they were told as kids.
