@vector Thanks. I agree that these ones turned out great. What you're not seeing are the 50 that didn't.
It's an Olympus E-M10 with a 40-150mm (80-300mm equivalent) zoom lens. It's an excellent camera normally, but I guess it's not good for birding. Most of the photos came out blurry, and I had to throw them away. Most of those were distance shots, so the bird was a tiny part of the frame. The camera probably just has difficulty focussing on a tiny object. Notice that these were all closer shots, which is why they came out. To use this camera for birding, maybe I would need a manual-focus lens that I prefocus to infinity. That would probably work.
For anybody looking for a good birding camera, I would steer them away from Olympus. I'm thinking of getting a camera just for birding. I'm looking at the Sony Cyber-Shot RX10. It's supposed to have very good image quality, and it has a 600mm-equivalent zoom lens, pretty much a necessity. I don't know how well it performs (such as focus speed), but it's where I'm going to start investigating when I have the money.
@Photorat These photos are awesome. What are you shooting with?
