The crater below him was rumored to contain all manner of lost treasures and forgotten artifacts. Dubbed the Endless Crater, no one has ventured into its depths and come out alive. He had to see what was down there. The abyss called to him and he intended to answer.

“They say this crypt is haunted. Now, I’m not saying ghosts aren’t real, but I don’t think we’ll be contending with spirits down there. The seismic readings coming from this location suggests something...larger waits for us inside. Let’s find out what it is.”

“The corpses are not just re-animated, but connected to a hive mind. There’s a cruel sentience behind those eyes.”

“Breathe in the Vapor and awaken the senses. The Celestial Starfields are home to many creatures that can only be observed after Enlightenment. So breathe deep and experience a new reality.”

I wanted to include the original sketch with this one because I liked it so much😊

As he explored the surroundings he could only think of one flaw with this planet - it’s in the wrong spot. According to his navigation unit, the area occupied by this planet should be empty. Maybe an asteroid or piece of debris here and there, but certainly not a planet.

This planet shouldn’t exist.

He lost track of how many of the passageways he’s explored so far. But he was sure of one thing: they all lead downward. Aside from a trail of previous explorers’ gear and the poorly preserved remains of ancient civilizations, there was nothing of note or value. However, the urge to continue downward was strong.

He was determined to find out what lies below.

“Of course, none of that is true. You can’t gain favor with the Hidden God through sacrifice - or any other means for that matter. The Catastrophe will not be any kinder to these creatures than it will be to you or me. This suggests that these creatures act in a purely instinctual fashion and they are extremely dangerous.”

“Ghoulish creatures prowl the edges of the Celestial Plains. They hunt whatever stumbles into their lands and sacrifice those they capture. Their belief is that the souls they sacrifice feed the Hidden God and gain them favor in the coming Catastrophe.”

The disease was spreading. The vision in his left eye was unfocused and dull. Left unchecked, the disease will take his vision, mobility and, ultimately, his life. He couldn’t allow that to happen - he still had work to do.

The recipe for an elixir to slow the effects of his illness was rumored to be inscribed in the Old Tomes hidden within the Collapsed Ruins.

He must find it.

“It’s not an easy task, dreaming the future. You weave together all possibilities, probabilities, and foregone conclusions into a harmony that flows in rhythm with the universal song. It’s beautiful, really. Unfortunately, some of those dreams wind up becoming nightmares.“

I’ve included the original sketch for this drawing in the gallery.

Hi! My name is Michel, I make illustrations and animations, and I love creating narratives with my art

“A parasitic relationship will eventually become a symbiotic one if given enough time. At some point that forest became infected and now, those “trees” are their own creature. If you decide to continue into that forest just be forewarned-

Those trees will eat you.”

This is the result of just sitting down to sketch with no real goal or idea in mind when I started. There’s stuff here I do like, but mostly, this one kinda got away from me as I was working on it.
