Giving money to your admin to keep things running or to the Mastodon project are great ways to give back and help your community.
Giving money to support individual users on Mastodon who need money and resources is just as if not more helpful and important.
Support the poor in your community. Pay the artists. Spread the resources around. Make this place as healthy and punk rock as possible.

@GinnyMcQueen Oddly, I've felt that I have mostly not seen "please support me" on Mastodon where I have felt that it has been a "money grab" type thing. There may have been a couple of specific cases. Though I also believe there are a *lot* of people who aren't asking who almost certainly could use help. Some of us feel creepy even mentioning when it's for something specific, or even just to be able to make something closer to living income... I wish it weren't true.

@JigmeDatse @GinnyMcQueen What about a #Patreon or similar service for your local Mastodon server? That way there's some transparency to how much funding the instance gets, and gives another opportunity to meet your local user community? I could totally chip in a dollar month toward a service like this.
