Discussing Meat

I just realized that you don't have to go fully or to boycott the industries. I'm not (yet?) willing to give up meat and eggs, but I just realized I'm fine with replacing milk, beef, and possibly pork. Sure poor chickens still get to suffer under me, but that's at least two major industries that I could boycott anyways 🤔

@Ayior Yeah! Also, you don't have to stop immediately and completely. You can go progressive. Just reduce to 1 meal a day or 1 meal a week (depending on your current consumption). Cutting by half is still 50% better!

@Ayior This incremental method is traditional in East Asia. It doesn’t have to be an all or nothing commandment from on high as more fanatical vegans sometimes treat it. There is a Starfish Parable dimension to food ethics which matters. Phasing in vegetarian commitments is less shock to the system, helps many make the shift anyway.

@Shufei @Ayior Also not eating meat on certain days (common in many traditions, e.g. Oriental Orthodox).

re: Discussing Meat

@emacsomancer @Ayior I didn’t know they did that too! Yes, that’s how I made the shift, the six and ten zhai days. It took quite a while for my body to adapt. I think many in the west try to go “cold tofurkey” and are disappointed or even physically ill.

@Ayior

Since money is being saved by not buying those other animal products perhaps the chicken that is eaten, at least at home, is from sources that treat the chickens well before they become someone's food. 😉
